Shlage deadboltFlatirons Locksmiths, a full service locksmith company Tip#8. To upgrade or not to upgrade to higher security locks? A look at the pros and cons. If security is a concern then the answer is clear, you must relieve that concern by making your home as secure as possible and upgrading to higher security locks for your doors is one way to accomplish that. I do however recommend that you consult with an expert on selecting the right high security locks for your home. Some are not as secure as they are made out to be and usually to a trained person there is always a way around the security measures, so by consulting with a trained individual you can find those with the more difficult measures to overcome.

So what are some of the cons to upgrading to high security locks? The biggest one I believe is in the rare case that you could get locked out of your home. As locksmiths we are able to pick regular locks to get you back into your home, as I mentioned previously, there are often times a way to overcome a high security lock but it can be very difficult and time consuming and frankly does not always work so the locksmith may decide that the only way is to drill and then replace the lock with a new one. This just means that it takes longer to get into your home and the cost is higher due to replacing the drilled out lock. Should you have any further questions about upgrading to higher security locks, please give us a call.
