Flatirons Locksmiths, a full service locksmith company Tip#14. In Colorado the fire code requires that most businesses have installed on at least one of their exits a push bar for easy exit from the building. The fire department or the inspector from the city will tell you exactly which door or doors they require it to be on. These push bars are also called panic bars, appropriately named as that is what they are for in case of panic and everyone is running towards the exit in a panic they are designed to allow for the door to open easily when the bar is pushed so as not to crush anyone up against the door.
If you have been told by the fire department or inspector you need to have one installed, be very careful to install it correctly so that it works the way it was supposed to where the latch closes and locks so you can’t just open it from the outside by pulling on it. We have been called out many times after someone has tried to install it and it didn’t work properly afterward so if you are not sure how to install it then call us first and we can get it done right for you the first time.
